Who we are
BriefThem sends daily update digests to work teams. It's operated by Kanaan & Co., a US registered marketing agency. In this policy, 'we' means Kanaan & Co. and 'you' means anyone who uses BriefThem or receives its emails.
If your employer signs up for BriefThem, they decide who uses it and what it covers. We handle your information as they instruct. You can ask us directly about your data, and we'll answer.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name, work email, job title, department, time zone, tools you follow and preferred digest time.
- Your company. Your company name, email domain, teams, team managers and logo, if you upload one.
- How you respond to an update. Whether and when you acknowledge an item, mark it not relevant, answer a quick check or flag it to share with a client.
- Client contacts, if your company sends client digests. A client's company, name and email, entered by someone at your company.
- Delivery records. Which digests you receive and when, plus email providers' bounce and spam complaint reports, so we can stop sending to addresses with delivery problems.
- Technical records. A cookie to keep you signed in, one that remembers the address you last signed in with for 30 days so the sign-in page can offer it again (signing out clears it), plus standard server logs with your IP address and browser for security and troubleshooting.
What we never do
- We never read your mailbox. BriefThem can't access your email and never asks for permission.
- We never sell your information or share it for advertising.
- We don't use advertising or analytics trackers on the site.
- Neither we nor our providers use your information to train AI models.
How you sign in and find your team
You sign in with your Google or Microsoft work account. We receive your name, email and profile photo when you sign in.
If your admin chooses automatic setup, they grant permission to read your directory. We read it when your admin connects it to find your team, including names, job titles and departments, so people don't have to enter those details. After that we read it once a day, to add people who join and to stop digests for people who leave. It only reads directory records, with no access to email, files, calendars or messages. Your admin can revoke access anytime in their Google or Microsoft admin console.
Where your updates come from
BriefThem reads public release notes, changelogs, product blogs and industry publications for your team's tools. We access them as any reader would. We don't connect to your accounts in those tools.
How we use AI
We send public update text, your job title and the tools you follow to Anthropic's Claude API. This AI checks relevance to your role, writes your summaries and separates updates from tips. We don't send your email address, name or company's client list. When you use the help chat we also send what you type and the headings of the page you are on, which can include names shown there. Anthropic processes this information for us and doesn't use it to train its models.
Who handles your information
We use a few providers, each for a specific job:
- Amazon Web Services. Hosting, databases and email delivery in the US.
- Anthropic. Sorting and summarizing public updates, as explained above.
- Google and Microsoft. Sign in and directory discovery, only if your admin enables it.
- Slack, Google Chat and Microsoft Teams, only if your company connects them. We send your digest and receive your button presses there. We find you by looking up your work email in your company's workspace.
- Apple, Google and Mozilla push services, only if you turn on notifications on your phone. They deliver notifications to your device with only the number of waiting updates and the first headline.
We also share information when the law requires it or to protect the service and its users. If the business is sold or reorganized, your information may transfer with it. This policy still applies until we tell you otherwise.
Emails you get from us
Your daily digest is an account service email, so it has no marketing unsubscribe link. You can pause it using the link at the bottom. Saving your profile resumes delivery. Change your delivery time and time zone in your profile. To leave BriefThem entirely, ask your company's admin to mark you as left.
Some emails let you acknowledge items or answer quick checks within the message. These buttons send your answer over an encrypted connection, as they do on the site. They carry only a token identifying the item and recipient. They never ask you to sign in or enter a password inside an email.
Client digests contain summaries clients can read but not edit. Each message lets them opt out in one click. Once they do, no one at the sending company can add them back.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and digest history while your company uses BriefThem. When your company closes its account, we delete its data within 30 days, except records required for tax or legal reasons.
If you leave your company, an admin marks you as left. Your digests stop that day, you're removed from coverage figures and you leave team lists after 30 days. Your account and history stay with your company's account so an admin can restore you if you return. Nothing is deleted. To request deletion, you or an admin can contact us at info@briefthem.com and we will.
Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your profile, tools and send time anytime on your profile page. Ask us to show, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you. These are legal rights in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and US states with privacy laws such as California. We honor them for everyone and won't treat you differently for asking.
If your company is our customer, we may send your request to them first because they control the data.
Security
Connections to our site and email actions are encrypted. Our hosting provider encrypts stored data. Only people who need access can use production systems. No system is perfect. If a breach puts information at risk, we'll promptly notify affected people and companies.
Children
BriefThem is for work, not children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we make a significant change, we'll update the date above and email account admins before it takes effect.
